X-men Origins: Wolverine (agente008)

If you like Wolverine you might agree that it is good that the only interesting character in the X-Men world has his own movie. No, I’m not referring to Professor X, I’m talking about X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This long awaited flick that, whether good or bad, will without a doubt introduce a breath of fresh air into the Marvel franchise. One thing I need to state about Mr. Hugh Jackman is how uncanny perfectly cast he is as Logan, a.k.a. Wolverine. I’d swear Marvel had him in mind when they first drew their self-healing clawed anti-hero 35 years ago. But never mind, X-Men Origins: Wolverine is one of those movies that can’t fail so long as it delivers great action with explosions galore involving mutants with incredible powers. It certainly does! Although, it most could have done much more, better. [ad#blog2_horizontal-1] [ad#blog2_horizontal-2]

The film traces Logan’s start all the way to the beginning to when he was a young boy, where, after discovering his “talent” for shredding and stabbing things goes on the run with his older brother Victor, a.k.a. Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber). Many years pass, and he and his brother ultimately find themselves in with a band of mutants — teleporter John Wraith (will.i.am), super strong Fred Dukes (Kevin Durand), electrically charged Chris Bradley (Dominic Monaghan), expert marksman David “Agent Zero” North (Daniel Henney) and swordsman Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) — controlled by General William Stryker (Danny Huston) to do his covert military operations around the globe. When one surgical strike goes bad, Logan takes a rest from the group and after a strangely made homemaker chapter of the movie, the sparks finally fly — literally — as he’s turned into the adamantium-boned Wolverine we know and love. With revenge specially against Victor and Stryker on his mind, X-Men Origins: Wolverine finally limps into overdrive, throwing everything, including the kitchen sink, at the moviegoers in hopes that the first half of the movie be overlooked… It mostly works. The visual and special effects are outstanding! Problem is, the final battle between the forces of good and evil at the end is anti-climatic and a bit on the weak side. Sadly the same could be stated about the rest of the mutants. Most of them show off their powers no more than once and then are discarded like a used piece of gum. Those that do get the chance to showcase their talents a few more times are the ones you really don’t want to see again like the Blob, for example. While I was impressed with Schreiber’s take on Sabretooth, I don’t think seeing him fight his brother half a dozen times was needed.

While there are some things that could have been done better there are a few things that do make this movie worth a trip to the theater or to buy movie tickets online… For starters, Wolverine and the fact that the X-men universe continues to be fun and spectacular.
